![]() ![]() All of it executed better than what one could possibly expect, and for that, this game definitely gets some props from me at the story front. The characters all seem to retain most of their personality traits from the television series, and the story progresses decently, with two different “timelines” happening depending on the side you take. The story here is odd to say the least, as I never thought I’d be combining my European history with my children’s card games, but it works well enough. Everything starts off rather fast, but there is a nice opening cinematic that does explain the story well enough for you to understand. The faction of the White Rose headed by Kaiba and YuGiOh villains, and the faction of the Red Rose, headed by Yugi and the other heroes of the series. They all go by the same names, but they’re actually historical people divided up into two factions. ![]() With a story mode based on the actual English War of the Roses, you play as a duelist summoned from the future by characters from the anime. The graveyard lottery system used to get you more cards from your opponents. Our subject for today, Duelists of the Roses created a unique, and yet not so well received gameplay style loosely based on the popular card game. There were some, however, like today’s subject, that kind of took a different route. What was a young Abyssal to do? Well, luckily for myself, there were video games made! Most of them pretty loyally following how the card game played out. Sometimes though, as a kid, I couldn’t find a whole lot of people to duel all of the time. Although the game has somewhat lost its luster over the years with all of its expansions on rules and card types, I still like to go back and duel every now and again. The strategy, the fun, the players – all of it has just been a huge part of not only my childhood, but my high school days as well. ![]() What else could I possibly confess to? Well, turns out, I’ve been a huge nerd for the Yu-Gi-Oh card game from a young age, and still am. I’ve confessed to being a closet sports fan, and a fan of professional wrestling. The stained glass on the field is also something else I want to remake, but up-scaling it causes some issue, I might one day remake the entire graphic for that, keeping in mind the original art design.Īlso with the card up-res I decided to run all through an up-scaler and it seems to do the job, the right thing to do would be to get the official art, set its opacity to 50% and add to the pack, however that takes a loooong time, which I'm not sure I have, I've done it to one card, Summoned skull, just because the up-scale messed with his face.I seem to have had a lot of confessions made during my tenure at the Bacon. So, the rest of the stuff that i haven't really touched much would be the 3D battles and the 3D models, I feel like there's so much effort involved in extracting all those textures then up-scaling it and fixing other things for something most people turn off, so for now I don't think I'll be touching that.Īnother thing is the icons for stuff and general UI elements, I feel like they're good as they are, I'm not sure how to improve them or even if I should. The card battle glitch hasn't been addressed but the cheat codes I added seem to make it work well enough. So when up-scaling the game resolution it messes with the graphics, there's an option to shift it over a few pixels, but that messes up other parts of the UI, so unless the team on pcsx2 fixes it, I wouldn't recommend altering it The Text edges, they have a little garbled texture around the edges, I did for the little intro however they're also stored in ram and editing them seems almost impossible because you'd need to do it for every variation of the players name, which is absurd The small leader portrait, apparently that is made every time you load the game in ram so editing that texture doesn't seem to work, it will default back to a pixelated version So, a few things I wanted to change but couldn't: Added support for the original cards as well as ones found in the amazing Redux mod! Updated like 90~ cards that somehow weren't up-scaled
